Make It Happen

Well the husband and I woke up early this morning, October 5, and traveled to Pleasant Grove to get some testing done at the Utah Fertility Center. We spent 4 hours at the doctor and had several tests done including a water ultrasound for me and some blood work for Dusty (among other things). We also met with our coordinator, Tonya, who will help us every step of the way through our IVF journey. Tonya went over the process of IVF with us again to make sure we fully understood everything. She went over the calendars we have to follow to stay on track for the procedure, and I also got to have a "shot class". I will have to perform 2 injections a day in my stomach for a couple weeks, so she showed me how to properly sterilize, prepare, and perform the injections. We also learned that all the medications and injections that I will be taking, along with medications Dusty has to take, will cost us about $3,200. Yeah you are probably having the same reaction we had. Those wide eyes and dropped jaw...but we will do what we have to do to start a family. And if that is spending $3,200 on medication, then so be it. We will find a way to make it happen!

After sitting down with our financial coordinator, Genie, we found out that the procedure is going to cost a bit more than we had otherwise expected. If you remember, Dusty and I have to have a more costly IVF procedure done called ICSI (ick-see) because of Dusty's fertility problems. So instead of the $10,000-$15,000 we had anticipated to spend, it will cost closer to $20,000...which wasn't the news we wanted, but as stated above, we will do what we have to do to start a family and make it happen.

So on our 4-hour road trip back home Dusty and I had plenty to talk about, and a little time to take a picture (See below). (I think he enjoyed me staying awake on the way home since I slept the whole way there.) I love the relationship we have and I know that this journey is going to be difficult, stressful, and emotional but as long as we have each other, we will be fine, and we can make it through anything!

Now I want to take a minute in our blog to thank so many people who have donated to our "Baby Fund". Every little bit helps, and I can't thank you all enough for your love, support, and donations you give us to help us become that much closer to becoming parents, becoming a family, and getting what we've always dreamed of..a baby! Dusty and I have so many special people in our lives that continue to help us everyday. We are so blessed to have the amazing family and friends that we do....so to all of you, Thank You!!!

The next step will be to continue saving money and select a date to make it happen...
