So the next morning we drove to Pleasant Grove. The Nurse Practitioner did an ultrasound and said I had some fluid pockets. She told us it wasn't bad and that normally they would send us home and see if they go away on their own, but where we made the long trip up she was going to call the doctor in to drain it. So they got my IV in and gave me some pain meds until the doctor arrived. When the doctor got there and looked at the ultrasound, she was shocked at how much fluid was actually on my stomach (she said there was definitely A LOT more fluid than what the nurse made it sound like). She said it definitely needed to be drained off and that it would help me feel so much better. She diagnosed me with Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome. My body was just retaining so much fluid and causing the swelling and hardness to my stomach which lead to extreme vomiting.
Now I am not going to go into details on how this procedure was done, but to give you an idea of how much fluid was sitting in my abdomen, by the time they finished draining the fluid they had drained almost 2 Liters off! Yes, you read that right! Like a 2 Liter bottle of soda...that much fluid was on my stomach causing my pain. Once the fluid was drained off I felt 90% better. But the doctor told me that I had to do NOTHING but lay down with my feet elevated for the next week. That's just what you want to hear when it's Christmas time and you have shopping and decorating to do. She warned me that if I was up and about I could start to retain fluid again which would lead to needing to have my abdomen drained again. Needless to say, I obeyed and did some online shopping while I laid in bed with my feet elevated with my Christmas movies on.
I thought I had experience 'bad' cramping pains with my wonderful friend called endometriosis....but that pain is NOTHING compared to the pain of having so many eggs (60) in your ovaries so that your ovaries are the size of small melons. And THAT pain was nothing compared to having swollen ovaries AND 2 liters of fluid causing bloating and putting pressure on my already sensitive and hypterstimulated ovaries!
Our first ultrasound was scheduled for December 20th, which would be our 7 week ultrasound. Fortunately for us, Dr. Foulk, our fertility doctor, was going to be in St. George that week so we wouldn't have to drive to Pleasant Grove. We went in at 9:45 AM for our very first ultrasound (well "technically" it was our second ultrasound as we had one done the day of the embryo transfer). Now our blood work told us we were pregnant, but that is not 100%. The blood work was a chemical pregnancy, but the ultrasound would confirm our pregnancy. So we went in a little nervous and hoping everything was still well.
Dr. Foulk came in and started the ultrasound, and we were holding our breath for the pregnancy confirmation. That was when Dr. Foulk told us he found a heartbeat and on that black and white screen we saw that darling little blob and the little heart flickering.

Our Christmas Present!!
Did you notice the surprise? Look again if you didn't...yes there are two. Both embryos attached and we are SOOOO EXCITED that we are having TWINS!! They are fraternal twins and both heartbeats are strong and both babies are doing well. We are due on August 6, 2013, but Dr. Foulk told us with twins they usually come about 3 weeks early. Dusty and I couldn't be happier and couldn't ask for a better Christmas gift!! Our dreams of becoming parents are FINALLY coming true, and we get double the fun!! We still have the procedure to pay for...but we would pay double the price in a heart beat for this experience and opportunity. Thank you all for your prayers and donations, which have not gone unnoticed and which have helped us achieve our dreams!
