Like All Things....It Goes On

To give you some background information...my senior year of high school, 2007, I was constantly having abdominal pains, and horrible monthly's (Sorry Men). One day while I was waiting tables at Houston's I had horrible abdominal pain, I thought then I had appendicitis. I was crouched over in pain, so they sent me home. My parents were out on Cedar Mountain and I had been home alone. I called my Aunt Nolyne to tell her about my pain, and she suggested I go to the ER just to make sure my pain wasn't from appendicitis. She drove me to the hospital and after blood work, it wasn't my appendix, so they did an x-ray and ultrasound. They found several, very large cysts on my ovaries. They went over different options with me to help the pain, like birth control, surgery, etc. But I told them I would just stick to Ibuprofen until the pain subsided. I have went the past 5 years with abdominal pain caused from my ovaries. I even used birth control once I got married but that only made matters worse.

Anyways, three years ago, Dusty and I decided we were ready to start a family. We were so excited and figured it would take a few months to get pregnant. Months went by...still no pregnancy. After a year of trying we decided to look into why we weren't able to get pregnant yet, and little did we know there were problems. We went and talked to my Gynecologist (the picture to the left, is us waiting at the Gynelogostist office) and she thought it would be an good idea to get Dusty checked. So she referred him to get a semen analysis. His results came back saying that his count was actually way higher than normal, but "their" motility was low to low-normal. We knew then that it was going to be more difficult for us to conceive. She also decided to refer me to get my fallopian tubes flushed out (HSG) to check for any blockages that could be preventing the pregnancy. I went and had the horrible, awful, excruciating procedure done. The tests came back a few days later, revealing that my right tube had a blockage, but the HSG procedure pushied the blockage out. My left tube was full of scarring, causing an "abnormal course" of flow. My Gynecologist told us to keep trying because now my tubes were cleaned out and bettering our chances of getting pregnant. Well that scarring was there for a reason...I wasn't born with it (said my Gastroenterologist). So he referred me to a different Women Specialist, Dr. Ott.

A few weeks later, towards the end of 2011, I had a consultation appointment with Dr. Ott. He went over my health history including the procedures I had done earlier that year (i.e. HSG, Appendectomy, all the notes from the several specialists I had seen, lab work, etc.). After looking at the facts, he wanted to check to see if I had endometriosis. Unfortunately for me, the only "sure" way to test for endometriosis was through surgery. So on December 19, 2011, I was back in the hospital for another surgery. Dr. Ott did a great job and come to find out I was full of endometriosis, which was also a cause for the scarring in my left fallopian tube. He informed us that the three months following the surgery would be the best time for us to conceive. I don't know if we are impatient or if we just get those "feelings" but after a few months with no success, we were back in Dr. Ott's office. He went over several other options with us including insemination and in vitro fertilization; which brings us to the present, 2012.
