As I was saying before, we went to Dr. Ott to discuss the options of
insemination, in vitro fertilization, and other fertility options. Dr.
Ott decided to send us to his partner, Dr. Chalmers, who he thought had
more success with fertility problems. A week later, we were in the
doctors office meeting with Dr. Chalmers. Just like Dr. Ott, Dr.
Chalmers was very nice, caring, and went over the options with us. He
answered all our questions and helped us decided what next step to take.
Our options were: 1- For me to take a hormone medicine to help produce
more eggs, and to keep trying on our own. 2- Take that same medicine and
do artificial insemination. 3- Do in vitro. Before the appointment,
Dusty and I already had in mind what we wanted to do, and after talking
with Dr. Chalmers and having him answer our questions, we decided to go
with Option 2, artificial insemination. Dr. Chalmers discussed the
procedure with us and throughout the next couple weeks we kept in
contact with him for the insemination process.
I don't
want to get into the details of insemination; but I took the medicine
(which made me more nauseous than I already am), I had an ultrasound
that showed instead of the usual 1-2 extra egg production, I produced 3-4 eggs. Dr. Chalmers said I was very sensitive to the hormone medicine
and that my ovaries went crazy (that's a good sign on my part). Then on
April 29, 2012 was our first attempt with insemination. It was quite
painful for me, and that day and the next day I was down in bed with
horrible cramping. The pain eventually subsided and 2 weeks after the
insemination we could take a test. I'm pretty sure you all can guess
what the outcome was....that's right, negative. :-( We tried not to get
our hopes up, but I did, and of course I cried. Dusty being the strong,
loving husband that he is, took me in his arms and let me cry on his
shoulder. I knew it wasn't the end of the world, and that we could try
again. But I was still heart broken. There's so much preparation, pain,
and expenses, and what do we get...nothing. But we are not going to give up!
And that's the story of our first attempt at artificial insemination...
